AUGATHELLA
~~oOo~~
Augathella is known as Meat Ant Country.
We stopped off for a break on our way to Charleville and we are glad that we did. This little town packs a punch with lots of cool things to see and photograph. We weren't the only ones that took a rest break here. There were quite a few vans parked in the main street and more turning up.
The water tower has some impressive art all the way around and there is a Big Meat Ant sculpture in the park.
Augathella is also the home of a movie about a local boy called Smiley. I hadn't heard of the movie, but there was a pretty cool mural in the main street at a cafe that we stopped at for a quick bite. Hubby really enjoyed his egg and bacon burger here. I had a pie that was just ok.
A stop here is highly recommended.

CHARLEVILLE

I chose the Evening Star Caravan Park just 10 minutes out of town as it had really good reviews for it's hospitality. I am glad that we stayed here.
As you can see, it is a popular place to stay. We were given a great spot close to the camp kitchen, fire and huge vege garden. Each site was drive through, level and surrounded by nice native bush for privacy.
The highlight here was the camp fire every night, or should I say bomfire. The dude that stoked the fire didn't hold back. In fact we all had to move back!
😊
Everything else about this place exudes friendly country hospitality. We loved the fact that we could help ourselves to spinache & tomatoes in the vege garden and there were lemon trees overflowing. I still don't understand why the price of lemons is so high.
Also, we were able to attend a star show for $35 each. It was amazing. Just a shame that there were no planets to check out. We could view stars and star clusters through the big telescope and I loved the colourful jewel star cluster located near the southern cross. I still haven't had the opportunity to go to a big observatory, but this is the closest that I have got so far and I loved every minute of it!
🤩🌟
I had a bit of fun lightpainting here. There are quite a few old rusty utes dotted around the camp site.

WATER TANK ART

Charleville itself doesn't have much going for it. Seems like another outback town that is slowly dying.
It does have a Water Tower Art and other art murals in town that I didn't get a chance to photograph.
