BLACKALL
~~oOo~~
We didn't stop here, but any town with 2 Australian Big Things is worthy of a mention.
😃
Blackall has the Big B and also the Big Ram.
By now, having done the lap, we have been on some famous roads, the Savannah Way, the Great Ocean Road, the Gibb River Road, Grand Pacific Drive, Nullabor & Pacific Coast Way. Now we find ourselves on the Matilda Way.

TAMBO
~~oOo~~
Tambo has a claim to fame being the oldest town in the west. As such, there are a number of beautiful heritage buildings in the small main street.
The Library that you see fronting this page is also the Information Centre. The friendly staff loved having a chat and proudly presented a beautiful quilt on the back wall in a glass frame that was made by the locals. The most gorgeous quilt we have ever seen.
Across the road is an old heritage house that reminded hubby of his grandma's house in Riverstone. The type where they added bits on gradually and then built them in and then added another verandah and so on. Inside, on display in the rooms was a cute baby cot that reminded hubby of the one that he had, a hand-me-down as was the case back then. Out the back we saw an old jockey shirt and cup. Again a reminder of hubby's dad who was a jockey back in the day.
Next door was another old building, the one you see above. This is the old Telegraph Office. There were memories here for me. The switchboard, an older version of what I was taught on in Business College. Also the old Telegram machines, before my day, but I still remember getting telegrams and sending telegrams to outback railway stations via the Sydney State Rail Authority where I worked for 12 years in the distribution of empty freight wagons around the state.
We both had a lovely trip down memory lane and all of it was free.

~~oOo~~
This is a nice little caravan park right in town. Next door is the local Foodworks. Very expensive, so we didn't buy much here. You could walk from the caravan park to the heritage buildings, pub and tavern.
There was also a pool that we had a quick dip in. Very cold as being end of May, the cold weather was setting in.
Even though the van sites were drive through and relatively flat, we did feel a bit packed in, like sardines. You could say that they utilised the space well. 😏
You may ask, why would a little caravan park in a small main street in Tambo in the middle of nowhere, with a few heritage buildings, get so packed?

SCHNITZEL STADIUM
~~oOo~~
Can you guess what this is?
Yes! It's chicken racing.
😁
Tambo is home of the famous Ben's Chicken Racing. People come from far away to see this event, held every evening at 5pm at the local pub.
It is an hillarious event with colourful chickens running after a little car with seed in. They auction off the chickens with the winner money going to local charity for the kids. What a nice idea.
My chook, the Lean Mean Green Machine was going good, but got a little side tracked. See the video below.

TAMBO TEDDIES
~~oOo~~
If you like, or better still, collect teddies, then this is the place for you.
The Tambo Teddy shop has an amazing array of teddy bears. Mind you, they are not cheap. They range between $150 and $200. But then you are getting quality and home made.
I was just happy to see my first Teddy Crossing sign.
😎
The photo below shows that we are in the outback Queensland bush and boab country. These trees are huge and very old.
