Day Trip from Launceston - North-East

--oOo--

This page is part of a series of pages highlighting what to do and see in day trips from Launceston.

The North-East is a pretty part of Tasmania dotted with vinyards.  The above is one of our favourite places to visit, the Bridestowe Lavender Farm.

The beaches up the North-East are a lovely too.

Going either way has it's advantages.  Here I have taken the clockwise route, however the anti-clock is good too because you can do the windy road and lookout first as if there is fog, it can be a pretty nice experience.  Then you could grab a picnic lunch at Scottsdale IGA or head into one of the nice cafes, restaurants or pubs in Bridport for lunch and do afternoon devonshire tea, finishing off with a glass of wine at Pipers Brook.

PIPERS BROOK

There's nothing better than sitting in an English garden setting overlooking a vineyard.

Bay of Fires Winery located at Pipers Brook has just that.  A beautiful garden setting with vinyards to look at.  Complete with a cheese platteer and a glass of wine. Doesn't get any better.

 😍🍷

BRIDESTOWE LAVENDER ESTATE

Do you enjoy a good devonshire tea or coffee?  How about an early grey tea and lavender scones with home made courtry jam and fluffy whipped cream?  Hawww!  Yuuum!

😀

The Bridestowe Lavender Farm at Nabowia is one of our favourite places to visit.  Not only does it do devonshire but it also has a splended array of lavender stuff a wide range of providore, gifts and all sorts of skin products etc.  Now I am sure you know why we love this place.

DECEMBER 2022 UPDATE

Finally!  We visited in December when the lavender was out in full bloom.  Please head to my Bridestowe Lavender Farm - 2022 page for the full story and fantastic photos.
Plus more in Nabowla 2023 when son Jesse & Ellen visited.

BRIDPORT

Bridport is essentially a fisherman village that expands incredibly during the summer holidays with Tasmanian families looking for surf, sun, sand and relaxation.  If you want to holiday in summer here you need to book early.

When we visited it was heading into winter and quite untouched.  The beaches are gorgeous and it seems that there is a selection of cafes and restaurants and a pub in the small main street.

We look forward to coming here for a day trip in the warmer weather.

SCOTTSDALE

Scottsdale is a cute country town.  We stayed in the free camping spot here when we travelled through on a camping holiday in 2018.

If doing the round trip back to Launceston then you will pass through Scottsdale.  Maybe pick up some fresh fruit and a snack at the local IGA for your journey back.

SPRINGFIELD

The Sideling Lookout is pretty spectacular.  No walking required.  Just make sure you are ready to turn off the road quickly as it comes up on you quick.

We stopped off enroute from Launceston to Scottsdale.  Google maps does not really like to take you the direct route, so make sure you have a better road map to go by.  The road is narrow and very windy so be prepared for that.  It was still quite early in the morning when we arrived here which was good because there was a bit of fog hanging around which made for great photos.
