I write this at the end of April 2026. We have lived in Woolgoolga for nearly 1 year now. Woolgoolga is around half an hour north of Coffs Harbour. It has been a pleasure living back near the beach. Sunset Caravan Park has been good to us. We have a beautiful pool in our back yard and large camp kitchen too. The Bowls Club is a 3 minute walk away. We enjoyed our regular Thursday night dinners there along with free raffle tickets. We won a few free meat trays which made our weekly shop go further. The beach is just a short 10 minute walk away and through what I call the Bat Forrest which as you can guess housed a huge local bat population.
All in all, we have had a fabulous time here. But now hubby is of retirement age and I am, I suppose you could say, semi-retired, it's time to move on because the cost of living here will stretch our new Pension budget a little too much. We have decided to head on up to the top of Queensland to a place called Mareeba which is 50 minutes inland from Cairns.
So here is a bit of a blog of photos around Woopie (which is the local lingo for Woolgoolga).

Sunrise on the beach is always an enjoyable sight.
The occasional couple walking their dog early in the morning, a lone surfer and seagulls soaring overhead complete the ambience.

MISTY MORNING SUNRISE
~~oOo~~
Photographers often like to frequent the same spot at various times of the year as you can capture a totally different vista.
It was unusual to see a misty morning on the beach in the middle of summer, but we enjoyed the view.
FLOWERS
Photo taken with my Lensbaby Soft Focus Art Lens and bokkah disc.
I quite often take my camera and one or two lenses with me when I walk into town. There is never a shortage of flowers and other bits and pieces to take a quick pic of.

BAT FORREST
~~oOo~~
On the way to the beach from the Caravan Park we had to walk through what I call the bat forrest. The bats increased alot in the 12 months we lived here. There doesn't seem to be room for all of them. I wish there was a way to half the population humanly. Anyway, below is some photos of the bat forrest and surrounding swamp.
I have a video link below of the bats swarming the sky at night.

RESTAURANTS OF WOOPIE
~~oOo~~
The above is from La Hacienda 101 Mexican Cantina Restaurant. I enjoyed the colourful walls and ambience here. The only thing that let them down was the soft tacos which were made from beans and not corn or wheat, so they had a dusty taste. Oh and their Margaretas were not as good as the Thai up the road. Which brings me to that restaurant.
Thai on Market is hubby's favourite. I must admit, the owner got to know us and we always got the best seats in the house, and the Best Margaretas Ever! And he said he doesn't drink them lol. Anyway, you will see the difference in both venues in the photos below. Thai on Market, I must admit has really good food. When my bro and sis visited us from Sydney, we took them to the Thai and they also loved it.
The other option, which was just a 3 minute walk from home in Sunset Caravan Park was the Bowls Club. Cheap meals, cheap, not so nice drinks but the bonus was that we won a few free meat trays that helped us with our food budget.

SUNSET CARAVAN PARK
~~oOo~~
We loved having our pool in the backyard.
Of course we had to share it from time to time with our neighbours and the drop ins...
😉
Sunset Caravan Park was a great place to live. So close to the beach, shops, restaurants, library, beach and with all the comforts of resort style living. The owners kept it in great shape, being clean freaks, which is a good thing.
However, it was time for us to move on due to major renovations including new pool and camp kitchen, and more units which is the way most caravan parks are heading now. Be sure to check out the video below of our set up here at Woopie and the batty one.
Don't forget to sing, "Who Let the Bats out!"
😎
Stay tuned for another adventure as we head north to Mareeba near Cairns and a new life up in the tropics in Northern Queensland.
