The Big Lap - Mataranka

--oOo--

This is our second time in Mataranka.  See my 2009 page for more things to see and do including feeding Barramundi and the Elsey Cemetery (Wee of the Never Never).

We stayed again at the Mataranka Homestead.  Sad to say that it seems that they haven't spent any money on it since 2009 at it's looking a little tired.

We probably should have stayed at the Caravan Park near town and on the way to Bitter Springs.

MATARANKA SPRINGS

The Mataranka Springs are about 200m from the Homestead along a nice steel pathway.  Bat stench!  OMG!!  Yukk.  There were thousands of bats everywhere.  The springs were nice though.  Crystal clear.

BITTER SPRINGS

Bitter Springs are closer to town.  This time there was a nice paved pathway and there has been a lot of work done to the springs which makes it easier to enter the water.  And no bat stench like at Mataranka Springs.

MATARANKA HOTEL

Last time we visited we had a lovely meal here - SA Oysters, yuuum!  And the dining area was almost empty.  Check out my other Mataranka page.

This time.....  forget it.  It must have arived on local Centrelink payday because every local just happened to be at the pub.  We felt really out of place, so we drank our beers and high-tailed it outta there.
